With grateful hearts for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Abraham Deng Alier who was born in Bor, South Sudan on January 1, 1980 to Alier Riak and Agau Alier and who passed away in Louisville, Kentucky on May 27, 2026.
Abraham was married to his best friend and the love of his life, Monica Gerang Duot. He was a very loving father to his children, Yom Deng Alier, Alier Deng Alier, Gerang Deng Alier, and Ayen Deng Alier, who will all miss him tremendously. He was a strong spiritual leader for his family and taught them to love the Lord like he did. He was always reminding them to "fight the good fight and finish the race. We know that his love through of 1 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." Abraham embodied this to everyone and will be well rewarded in heaven for his faith.
Abraham was a nurse at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. He loved preaching the word of God, guiding his family in the Lord, He was a humble man with unquestionable integrity. He greatly enjoyed volunteering and serving in his community and was a peacemaker to all. His family will miss him dearly and they are so grateful that he was a part of their lives, if only for a short while.
Abraham is also survived by his brothers, Mariel Alier, and Majare Alier; his sisters, Akon Alier, Yom Alier and Abier Alier; his uncle, Joseph Maker Riak; aunt Abuol Riak; cousins Ajak Deng Riak and Aloung Mading Riak; as well as his very best friend, Gai Maluo; his pastor John Deng Ater; and dear family friends, Nawal Gum and Akucha Philip Magot. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ajak Deng Alier.
A visitation will take place from 1 PM to 8 PM on Friday, June 5 at the Legacy Funeral Center - Nunnelley Chapel at 4327 Taylor Boulevard, Louisville, Kentucky 40215 and a funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, June 6 at Beechmont Presbyterian Church at 417 West Ashland Avenue, Louisville Kentucky 40214. Burial will follow at Green Meadows Cemetery at 3800 Shanks Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40216
