Marietta (Martin) Boswell

Marietta M. Boswell, 83, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky.  She was born in Paris, Texas on October 12, 1937 to the late Troy W. and Nothera Ritchie Martin.  Marietta graduated in Mayfield, Kentucky where she was a straight A student and graduated with honors.  She then moved to Louisville, where she spent more than 50 years, mainly at her home at 2905 Rowan Street.  Marietta used her independent, tenacious personality to raise 3 children while working 2 jobs and going to school. She never wanted to burden anyone with anything she could take care of herself. Marietta loved ballroom dancing, square dancing, knitting, sewing, swimming and taking her children and grandchildren to the YMCA.  Marietta was also known as ‘Lala’ during her time caring for the Ardery family and children.  In her spare time, Marietta taught herself how to refinish tables and furniture and how to be her own handyman.

In addition to her parents, Marietta was preceded in death by her sister, Nothera Ann Powell.

Left to cherish her memory, Marietta leaves behind 3 children, June Ann Rodriguez, Thomas D. Smith Jr. (Tess) and Dawn Marie Perry (Russell); 1 sister, Carol Miller (Harry); 4 grandchildren, Steven Rodriguez, Christopher Rodriguez, Russell Perry Jr. and Holly Perry; and a host of extended family and friends. Marietta will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

A funeral service will be held for Ms. Marietta Boswell at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Legacy Funeral Center-Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 W. Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will begin at 2 PM at the funeral home.  Following the service, Marietta chose cremation and will be returned home to Paris, Texas for burial at a later date.
