Arthur M. "Artie" Johnson

Arthur M. “Artie” Johnson, Jr, 76, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 8, 2020.  He was born on May 19, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN.  He was the son of Arthur M. and Glenna Glass Johnson, Sr.

Art graduated from Manual High School in the class of 1962.  He was married to Nancy (Wilson) for 33 years and raised a daughter, Mary, who now lives in England.  Art worked for LS Ayres as the head of their maintenance department and retired in 1999 after 37 years of service.   He moved to Lebanon Junction, KY in 2015, where he lived with his current wife, Karen.

Art was a skilled welder and jack of many trades; he could fix just about anything.  He was willing to help anyone with his time and knowledge, especially if an engine was involved.  Art loved fishing and sitting around a fire.  He had a special love for the Smokey’s and walking the Appalachian Trail.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Glenna Johnson, Sr.

Art is survived by his wife, Karen Peacock Johnson; sister, Shrynn (Lee) Gadient of Franklin, IN; daughter, Mary Ellen Johnson Smith of Ingatestone, England; grandchildren, Joshua and Verity Smith and step-children, Lisa Cook of Indianapolis, IN, Nikkie Curlin and James Churchwell both of Beech Grove, IN.

There will be a private memorial service for Art at a later time in his beloved Smokey Mountains.
