Claborne "Clay" Ray Baker, 90, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on October 9, 1933, to Leonard and Elizabeth Baker in Kingsport, Tennessee, Clay leaves behind a legacy of dedication, passion, and kindness. Clay devoted over 45 years of his life to Ford Motor Co., exemplifying hard work and commitment. He was a cherished member of UAW 862, where his loyalty and camaraderie touched the lives of many, a Kentucky Colonel , which is ambassadors of good will and fellowship around the world, A diehard fan of the UK Wildcats, Clay's enthusiasm for sports was infectious, and he cheered for his team with unwavering passion. Beyond his professional endeavors, Clay was an avid runner and a proud member of the Iroquois Hill Runners. His love for running led him to complete numerous marathons, showcasing his determination and perseverance. Known for his warm personality and quick wit, Clay never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time outdoors gardening and maintaining his immaculate yard. A faithful member of Cornerstone Community Church, Clay's spirituality guided his actions and brought comfort to those around him. Clay's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Clay is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Baker; and 3 siblings, Eva Ruth Wineinger, Martha Mattingly, and Jimmie Baker.
Left to cherish his memory, Clay is survived by 3 children, Judson Len Baker, Dennis Ray Baker (Tina), and Beverly Diane Booker (Mark); 6 grandchildren, Dustin Baker, Eric Booker (Ellisha), Ashley Baker, Aaron Baker, Alan Baker, and Justin Baker; 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces/nephews; special friends, Stella and George; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Clay Baker will be held at 12 PM on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Legacy Funeral Center – Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 12 PM to 6 PM; and prior to the service beginning at 10 AM, at the funeral home. Burial at Risinger Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky will follow the funeral service.
